Ultrafast spin dynamics
The quickest men-made events which manipulate magnetic structures are laser pulses in the 100-femtosecond range. The possibility of an all-optical route for writing magnetic domains on a time scale of less than one picosecond paves the way for ultrafast magnetic storage devices.
