Spintronics and magnonics
Electronic devices use the transport properties of charged particles to obtain well-defined functionalities. In spintronics one tries to discover even better functionalities by using the spin of the electron as well. Magnonics rests solely on spin waves, with that focusing on new material classes like insulating ferro- and antiferromagnets.
